7 Reasons Why People Love Pitbulls

Pit Bulls are very strong, intelligent and energetic dog breeds. They are descended from bulldogs and terriers. In the United States of America pit bulls are often referred to as a whole group of similar mixed breed dogs such as; American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and sometimes even American Bulldog. In other countries when people talk about pit bulls they think about American Pit Bull Terriers. They are officially recognized as American Pit Bull Terriers by organizations such as; the American Dog Breeders Association and the United Kennel Club, but they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Historically they came from the United Kingdom but today they are recognized as American dogs. Many countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Venezuela, Singapore, Malaysia, some states in the USA and many others even banned or put special legislation on ownership or breeding of pit bull breeds mainly because of extensive use of them in dog fighting. In the United Kingdom they are banned by legislation with forbidden ownership without an exemption from a British court.

They have a life expectancy of eight to fifteen years. Pit bulls come in many different colors like black, white and buckskin. In terms of size they are medium-sized with male pit bulls who have height from 18 to 21 inches and weight from 35 to 60 pounds. Female pit bulls are a little smaller than males and they are from 17 to 20 inches in height and from 30 to 50 pounds in weight.

When it comes to dog sports, they are the best breed for competition such as; weight pulling, dog agility, flyball, lure coursing, and advanced obedience competition for which they are rewarded with status of “superdog” by The United Kennel Club. Of all 115 dogs that The United Kennel Club gives that special status, 34 have been American Pit Bull Terriers.

They are also good as a working dog. Their inherent qualities such as high intelligence, working discipline, endurance and high energy makes them excellent as search and rescue dogs. Police use them for narcotics and explosives detection and as border patrol dogs.

Pit bulls often get a bad rap, but reality is different from the mainstream view of pit bulls trying to represent them badly. They are known to be friendly and extremely loyal to their owner. Let’s see five of many reasons why some people love their pit bull so much.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time with them because they crave a lot of attention and approval, and they like to be around people and make them feel good. Their devotion to the owner can be used to make them bad. Many people who are involved in illegal dog fighting use pit bulls’ loyalty to train them in whey to make them fight anybody who their owner says so. Fortunately those people are in the minority and majority of pit bull owners are great people. If you own any other dog, be aware of possible jealousy from your pit bull because they don’t like to share you with other dogs.
